“An official government announcement will momentarily interrupt your daily programs. Please stay tuned for important information from Governor Eldis Jones.”

The emblem of Multicity flickered on the screen, and Finnely groaned. He glanced over at Hyde next to him, who had his phone out. He was receiving the same message on his phone, but instead of Multicity’s emblem, it was Alvestia.

Karter plopped down on the floor with popcorn in a huge bowl.

“This isn’t a movie,” Finnely hissed at Karter.

The werewolf shrugged. “Might as well treat it like one.”

He offered some popcorn, and Finnely shook his head. He was too nervous to eat. The screen changed, and there before them was the governor and a few government officials along with him and Weston and Cambridge.

Finnely’s stomach knotted even further.

“Where is Prince Timeus?” Finnely asked Hyde.

“He was flown back. He comes back tomorrow, but he had to go and make the announcement.” Hyde sounded bored.

The rest of them had gathered at Karter’s place to watch the announcement that would forever change their lives. Finnely’s phone dinged, and he opened it. It was happening in witch-run territories as well. Instead of a vampire standing amongst government officials, it was a coven.

Finnely stared at it longingly for a short while before he pocketed his phone.

“Shouldn’t you be watching this with your coven?” Hyde asked.

A sharp pain hit Finnely, and he covered it up with a shrug. “They are dead or have left the city.”

Everyone was gone now; not even Jasper and Linda had stayed after Finnely had risked everything to save him. They’d disappeared the next day, never to be heard from again. Finnely was officially without a coven, and the hollow ache in his chest was a constant reminder.

Hyde said nothing else on the matter, and Rome wrapped an arm around him and pulled him closer. He bathed in the warmth that was his werewolf.

“I am here as your governor, a man who serves the people. The citizens of Multicity come first in my book. With that being said, today’s announcement has been a long time coming. We as humanity have come a long way, and we should no longer have the world hidden from us,” the governor started.

“Yeah, right, because there aren’t shootouts in grocery stores over a difference in diet sodas,” Hyde said.

“This is Prince Weston here to represent the vampires of Multicity.”

“Turn it up,” Karter growled as if he didn’t have enhanced hearing.

“We vampires are just like the rest of you. We once lived a humble human life, and we have not forgotten what it is like to be one of you. Yes, we drink blood to sustain ourselves, but there is already a way that we get our source without hurting anyone. There will be donation clinics around the city where you are more than welcome to donate. We have lived here just as long as many of you, and this is our beloved city as much as it is yours. We only wish to come out of hiding and cohabitate comfortably amongst all of you.
